The Chickenhawk Argument
This is in response to some comments in
this post below. My reply got too big for one comment so I am posting it here.
So were Woodrow Wilson (WWI) and FDR (WWII) chicken hawks? How about Bill Clinton who used military force in Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Sudan?
Certainly former Vietnam POW John McCain, a strong supporter of the War on Terror, isn't a chickenhawk. How do you explain his support?
Using the so-called chickenhawk label is a childish substitute for not being able to argue your case on the merits. First of all, I don't think any of the people you mentioned, including me, were "enthusiastic" about going to war. We felt it was necessary but nobody looked forward to it. I have family members in Iraq right now, certainly I am not enthusiastic to see them put in harms way.
Second of all, by your logic only members of the military would be eligible for government office. Further you wouldn't be able to discuss anything that you did not have expertise in. I hope you don't want the ability to ever criticize the police, since you're not a cop.
Once again you failed to discuss the specifics of my post. Are the 19 officers who served with Kerry pussies? Are the 54% of veterans that support Bush pussies?
Keep up the Bush hatred; it will only lead to a Bush landslide. Hatred is not a platform that wins elections. Ask the republicans from 1996 if Clinton hatred worked for them.
